I ran across this video in a group chat and loved it!
I’ve met a lot of international students in the graduate program at USC. Although most international students in the engineering school speak English well, talking with a couple of them has helped me realize what learning English must feel like to someone trying to master the language.
This video, with the characters Lucy Ricardo and Ricky Ricardo, from the groundbreaking comedy TV show I Love Lucy that aired in the 1950s, hilariously explains the challenge. It reminded me of how I felt trying to learn the rules for French grammar. Every rule has an exception was the most important rule I learned!
