Many of us at USC are committed to change. After a tumultuous 2018, I am more ready than ever to assist fellow students, staff, faculty, and administrators in restoring trust and re-uniting our community. Dr. Wanda Austin, the Interim President, recently appointed a Culture Commission, charged with overseeing campus culture initiatives and improvements.
As one of the representatives of the graduate student body, I was very grateful to be included with this diverse slate. Although we have only met once since the announcement of this group in November, we are all dedicated fully understanding the university’s collective values and seeking ways to align resources, policies, and procedures to those same principles.
First task on our plates? A university-wide values assessment. The Task Force on Workplace Standards and Employee Wellness – a pre-cursor to the Culture Commission – recommended distributing a survey to learn more about our community’s values, how they perceive USC’s current state, and what they want USC to become. We hope that it will guide us to drive positive cultural change in all aspects of the university.
We are relying on everyone to do this together. Fight On!
