Women’s Association of Venture and Equity

September 4, 2019

As a PhD candidate in STEM searching for opportunities in industry, I’m always on the lookout for interesting opportunities to broaden my business sense. At the start of this semester, I noticed an announcement from the Viterbi office about Women’s Association of Venture and Equity, otherwise known as WAVE.

WAVE is a non-profit organization that focuses on developing and advancing the next generation of women in venture capital and private equity. Both of those areas have come up multiple times during my studies for consulting case interviews, so I was interested in learning more about what exactly they were. WAVE seemed like the perfect place to turn to since they coordinate various developmental and networking events for interested students like me.

In two months, they will be hosting their Third Annual Women in Alternative Investments Career Forum in New York City. Marketed towards students and young professionals, this event is meant to expand the pipeline of women in these two industries. If you’re interested in attending, they’re accepting applications for scholars until September 20th! They even offer travel stipends of up to $500 for those coming from out of town, so definitely check it out if you’ve ever considered moving towards this space. Perhaps I’ll see you there!
