Every year, Achievement Rewards for College Scientists (ARCS) Foundation provides financial awards to graduate students across the country pursuing degrees in STEM. Run entirely by women, ARCS aims to advance science in America by giving younger scientists and engineers unrestricted funding to fuel the creation of new knowledge and technology. The Los Angeles Founder Chapter is heavily involved in the big research colleges in Southern California, namely USC’s Viterbi School of Engineering and Keck School of Medicine, California Institute of Technology, Harvey Mudd, Pomona, and UCLA’s Brain Research Institute. This year, 55 students from these schools were named ARCS Scholars, including me!

9 other students from Viterbi also received the award, with around half being returning scholars. We were all recognized at their fall luncheon, which was held at the California Club in downtown. It was my first time there and it was so elegant! A few of the other students presented posters and it was fascinating meeting them and learning about their research. Hopefully I’ll get to reconnect with some of them at future ARCS events! Check out all of LA’s ARCS 2016-2017 Scholars here. If you’re interested in applying, keep an eye out for an email from GAPP and try next year!
