Two weeks ago, a lot of my extended family flew into town for a long weekend of milestones and events. To mark the 20th anniversary of my grandma passing away, my aunts from Singapore, Hong Kong, and Hawaii all came to LA to remember her and spend time with one another. The anniversary of her death just so happened to fall on the same weekend as Chinese New Year, so there was a lot to celebrate as well. There was plenty of delicious, home-cooked food and festivities, including putting up decorations around the house, collecting red envelopes from my elders, and wrapping dumplings together. We took lots of pictures in our red clothing (symbolizing good luck and fortune!) and bonded over old pictures.

Crazily enough, my cousin-in-law gave birth on the same day as Chinese New Year as well! Welcome to the world, Sophie Marlowe Fong!! Sophie is the first in the next generation for my family, so we have been celebrating even harder than normal. Isn’t she the cutest? I can’t wait to see her again! If I’m MIA for a while, it will probably be because I’m playing with this one. Happy Year of the Rooster everyone!
