Exploring Old Town Pasadena

Although it has almost been a year since I graduated with my Bachelor’s, I am still fortunate to get to see my undergraduate friends all the time. My core group, most of whom I met at band camp before school even started, are almost all still in the greater Los Angeles area. Many of my other friends from clubs and classes are also still local. I was pretty nervous starting graduate school without all of them, but now, I realize that although they’re not students with me, they are still deeply in my life. How lucky am I?

Last weekend, a bunch of us visited my friend who is currently pursuing his PhD at Caltech. I grew up right next door in San Marino, but I hadn’t really explored the nightlife there because I didn’t go to high school here in California and it was a bit out of the way during college. We walked around Old Town Pasadena and tried three different bars. The first, the Blind Donkey, was a very dimlit, relaxing gastropub specializing in whiskey. A more casual version of Seven Grand, it was a great place to start the night. Afterwards, we strolled around and headed into White Horse Lounge, a bubblier cocktail bar with a classic, old-timey feel. A bunch of velvety couches surrounded the bar and we were able to snag some of them for a while. After that, we ended the night and King’s Row, another gastropub that was more laid-back. A night with my best friends and some beer and fries – how much better can it get? I am so glad I got the chance to explore Old Town with them. Cheers to future adventures!
