A trip to Griffith Observatory

I cannot begin to stress on how important it is to stay motivated while you’re in grad school. With the heavy course work, tons of assignment and exams there is a possibility that a student could get saturated pretty easily. And once we get saturated, it gets really hard to focus on the subjects. To overcome saturation and to make sure that I stay motivated, I like taking small trips with my friends.

The night before my midterm, I and my friends decided to make a trip to Griffith observatory the day after our midterm because we deserved a break. It was on valentines day and luckily, T mobile Tuesday had an offer going on for cab rides. There was a lot of traffic heading to Griffith on that particular day but I honestly did not mind the traffic because I was enjoying the cab ride and the city looked beautiful that night. I cannot say the same for my uber driver because he hated every second that he spent driving through that traffic. But everything changed once we reached the top of the hill.

I couldn’t believe my eyes. Los Angeles looked so beautiful from up there. It almost felt like there were thousands of twinkling lights below us. It’s just impossible to not fall in love with this city. I could hear kids screaming out of joy while their parents held them tightly. I could finally see why so many couples loved visiting this place with their partners. You don’t just fall in love with the city, you fall in love with your life.

My second favourite part of this trip was the famous public telescope, The Zeiss telescope. I’ve always wanted to look through a telescope and finally I was able to fulfil my childhood dream. Griffith J. Griffith, the man behind the whole idea of having a public telescope, believed that every one should get a chance to look through a telescope because that would change the way the world would be perceived. I think that’s true. Then we hanged around on the top of the observatory for sometime, just taking in the breathtaking view and I could feel my tension drowning away.

On the way back home we picked up a pizza from Papa John’s for dinner and ended our day on a good note.
