Keyue Shen
Associate Professor of Biomedical Engineering
Education
- 2010, Doctoral Degree, Columbia University
Biography
Dr. Keyue Shen received his Bachelor of Engineering (summa cum laude) in Mechanical Engineering and Master of Science in Biophysics from Tsinghua University of China. He earned his Ph.D. degree (with Distinction) in Biomedical Engineering in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at Columbia University in 2010. He then pursued postdoctoral training in the Center for Engineering in Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital, where he won an MGH Fund for Medical Discovery Award. Keyue joined the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Southern California in January 2015. He has since received a Marni Levine Memorial Research Development Award from STOP CANCER, a Trailblazer Award from National Institute of Biomedical Imaging and Bioengineering (NIBIB) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), and a Rose Hills Research Fellowship from USC. His research is also supported by the Phi Beta Psi Trust Fund. His research interests are in developing in vitro microengineered models of cell microenvironments in immune system, cancer, and stem cell niches, for applications in immune and cancer therapeutics, as well as cell/tissue regeneration.Research Summary
Dr. Shen's research group aims to develop biologically inspired in vitro platforms to capture the scale of cell signaling in tissue microenvironments from subcellular to tissue levels, and discover novel therapeutics for human diseases. We are particularly interested in developing integrated techniques for the maintenance and expansion of hematopoietic stem cells, and creating microfabricated models of cancer microenvironments. Our goal is to identify new targets and critical pathways in driving disease and intervention, and translate our discoveries into applications for immune and cancer therapeutics, cancer biomarker/drug development, and regenerative medicine.
