Robert F. Lucas has led ISI's diverse Computational Sciences and Technology division, including serving as founding operational director of the USC-Lockheed Martin Quantum Computation Center. He also leads the Department of Energy's substantial Institute for Sustained Performance, Energy, and Resilience project, which provides scientists with strategies and tools to productively maximize performance, conserve energy, and attain resilience. Lucas directed SUPER's predecessor as well.
He joined ISI in 2001 from the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, where he directed the research department at the National Energy Research Scientific Computing Center. Lucas has been a deputy director and program manager at DARPA, a researcher at the Center for Computing Sciences, and a technical staff member at Hughes Aircraft Company. He received his Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Stanford University.
