Engineering the Internet of Things

Presented by: Professor Bhaskar Krishnamachari

Prof. Bhaskar is a Ming Hsieh Faculty Fellow and Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the Viterbi School of Engineering, University of Southern California. He works on the design of algorithms, protocols, and applications for the internet of things and distributed systems. He has co-authored more than 300 papers, and 2 textbooks, collectively cited more than 25000 times. He has been a co-recipient of several best paper awards including at ACM MobiCom and ACM/IEEE IPSN. He has received the NSF CAREER Award and the ASEE Terman Award for outstanding ECE faculty. In 2011, he was featured in the MIT Technology Review’s TR-35 list of top 35 innovators under the age of 35, and in Popular Science magazine’s "Brilliant 10" in 2015.

Human-Centered Multimodal Machine Intelligence

Shrikanth (Shri) Narayanan is University Professor and Niki & C. L. Max Nikias Chair in Engineering at the University of Southern California, where he is Professor of Electrical & Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Linguistics, Psychology, Neuroscience, <!--more--> Pediatrics, Otolaryngology and, Director of the Ming Hsieh Institute and Research Director of the Information Sciences Institute. Prior to USC he was with AT&T Bell Labs and AT&T Research. His research focuses on human-centered information processing, machine intelligence and communication technologies. 

He has published over 900 papers and has been granted seventeen U.S. patents. His research and inventions have led to technology commercialization including through startups he co-founded: Behavioral Signals Technologies focused on the telecommunication services and AI based conversational assistance industry and Lyssn focused on mental health care delivery, treatment and quality assurance.

Smart Collaborative Robots

Dr. Satyandra K. Gupta is Smith International Professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering and Department of Computer Science in Viterbi School of Engineering at the University of Southern California (USC). He served as a program director for the National Robotics Initiative at the National Science Foundation from September 2012 to September 2014. Dr. Gupta's interests are in the area of physics-aware decision making to facilitate and advance the state of automation. He has published more than three hundred fifty technical articles. He is a fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and Society of Manufacturing Engineers (SME).
