Last Saturday was the USC Day at LA County Fair. If I had remembered sooner than Friday, I would have posted this sooner! Don’t worry – it’ll be back next September, so leave it on your to-do list.
All USC students can go to the LA County Fair for free on USC day. The Lyon Center provides bus transportation for $10, if you don’t have a car. That’s not bad considering that the fair is in Pomona.
County Fairs are basically awesome carnivals. Over the summer, my friend and I went to the Orange County Fair (near the big Orange hot air balloon in the picture above), and it was massive. We waited in line for at least half an hour but it was worth it. All the paths we walked through probably totaled one mile. It’s outdoors, with amusement park rides, Mexican food booths, picnic benches, multiple concert stages, petting zoos, and the occasional travel adventure salesman.
You also get to see what each county is like and what it values. The OC fair was much larger than the more rural fair I’m used to back home. It was also more diverse than I expected.
I relived my childhood memories of going to county fairs near home. Of course, food and rides are more expensive now, but the Tilt-a-Whirl (see picture) is priceless.
My ad for any county fair: An outdoors, fun break from frustrating research experiments or second year job-hunting stress!
