This past year, I served as a Viterbi and Graduate Liaison for the undergraduate organization for BMEs, the Associated Students of Biomedical Engineering (ASBME). When I first got to USC for college, I was not sure how to get involved or explore the many aspects of studying engineering. Because I was already spending so much time with the Trojan Marching Band, it was difficult to meet other BMEs. Fortunately, ASBME opened up positions on their executive board for freshmen representatives a few weeks into the school year. Applying for one of the two spots, I immediately jumped on this opportunity and was accepted straight into one of the other roles – Philanthropy Chair. I met some of my best friends through this club and have been heavily involved since that very first semester!

Although I was a graduate student this year, ASBME allowed me to serve on the executive board as a bridge between the undergraduates and the graduate student body (including GSBME), and the point of contact between the organization and the Viterbi administration. These past two semesters have been a massive success for ASBME, and I am so proud to have been a part of it for one more year. The co-presidents launched an annual Makeathon, which was lauded by the deans and students from other universities, and a whole brand campaign to increase our visibility on campus. We went over all of these achievements during our End of Year Dinner at El Cholo, and everyone received their superlatives and gifts. Although I won’t be a part of the ASBME executive board next year, I’m definitely still going to stop by and help out at the events!! Thanks for a wonderful 5 years ASBME!
