A few days after the actual Chinese New Year, my friends and I attended a holiday feast hosted by the Graduate Students of Biomedical Engineering (GSBME). The only student club for BMEs studying for their MS or PhDs, GSBME is run by an executive board of around 8-10 students and organizes academic, social, and corporate events for members. The semester officially kicked off with this dinner at Atlantic Seafood & Dim Sum Restaurant in Monterey Park!

About 10 people went and every person got to order a dish. We ended up with a great assortment of seafood, vegetables, noodles/rice, tofu, and meat. A few of us there knew how to speak Cantonese and that made the whole ordering process a lot easier. Because the BME department subsidized the meal with $200, each of us only had to chip in $10 to cover the rest of the cost and tip! Afterwards, we explored the plaza and got dessert at Phoenix, a Hong Kong style café, and boba from another local shop. Although we had to fight through some traffic to get inland, it was still nice to explore another part of the Los Angeles area. I’ll try to get GSBME to do another off-campus event soon!
