Last Tuesday, the Viterbi Graduate Student Association (VGSA) hosted its first signature event of the spring semester! Building upon the party we threw last year in Spring 2016, we increased the scale of the event and completely rented out Tommy’s Place and part of Traditions, the underground bar on campus. The engineering graduate student population took over both venues over the course of four hours (7-11pm), and enjoyed a night of socializing and mixing! We catered some bar snacks from Traditions for the first 400 people, so everyone was munching on veggie quesadillas, BBQ nachos, and buffalo/Korean chili chicken wings throughout the event.

The free food definitely attracted the masses – look at the massive line that formed! Throughout the night, we ran a social media contest for our attendees to encourage more people to interact with each other and take fun pictures. Well-liked photos posted to Instagram and Facebook that included our hashtags were awarded gifts and trinkets from the USC Bookstore. The uploaders were able to choose from key chains, shot glasses, mugs, water bottles, stickers, buttons and more! Seeing everyone gather in Tommy’s Place got me really excited for this semester. Hopefully all the attendees had some fun reconnecting with their friends and getting excited for the second half of the school year!
