Universal Studios Hollywood

The Early bird catches the worm, only when it decides to wake up and not spend two hours deciding and preparing breakfast just before a scheduled theme park visit. Yes, a bunch of us, not-so-early-birds gorged on some Frankies and Nutella sandwiches just before we headed to the Universal Studios, Hollywood.

I had been to the Universal Studios before and used my California Resident Pass to visit it again, this time with another group of friends. We reached there by 10:30 am and yes, we were late. Though this was my second visit, the excitement to experience all the rides once again was relentlessly brimming. The familiar jubilation at the entrance of the park got me in full swing and I geared up to have it all over again! We started with, not so surprisingly, the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. Do not be surprised when I tell you, we had to wait for three and a half hours before we could get our feet inside the magnificent castle. But, with the oh-so-delicious Butterbeer, we steered through. It brought back so many memories. It was our childhood on a roll and all those times when the books just got the better of us! The ride of the ‘Forbidden Journey’ undoubtedly made up for the entire wait. We checked out Zonko’s, Honey Dukes, Ollivander’s, Three Broomsticks, Owl Posts, Dervish and Banges, and oh, Filch’s emporium of Confiscated goods, everything inside the area. It was indeed memorable.

Having fulfilled our heart’s desire, we planned to see at least two more rides before ending our day. The crowd was unbelievable because it was 26th December. The internet said – Forget about it! Yet, we powered through and decided to go see the Transformers’ ride. It again involved a lot of waiting in the queues, but much lesser than at Harry Potter’s. I won’t dwell much on the details of how amazing this ride was, but I think I can visit it any number of times. A must-see it is! After killing the Decepticons and saving the planet, we went to my most favourite ride – Despicable me! I absolutely, absolutely adore the characters. The ride was extremely cute and everyone came out happy. We all indeed turned into cute little minions, oh yes they do that to you.

Fortunately, the crowd started thinning and we suddenly became hopeful of covering everything in the park. After having some much-needed burgers (I’m so glad there were options for vegetarians), we headed to the Jurassic World which was unarguably fantastic! Again, brought back childhood memories. The Mummy had an amazing thriller ride and I think I kinda became a doughnut. That’s what I become on thriller rides, curling up with all the adrenaline. The best part about the chosen date, though, was that the entire park was extravagantly decked up with Christmas lights. There was an atmosphere of celebration spread across the park. In the end, we did not really regret having come on such a busy day. The spirit of the festival rejuvenated us and filled our memories’ jar a little more.
