There are only a few days left of the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio this year, but don’t forget to cheer on our USC athletes who are still competing! Most students here don’t know this, but USC has an incredible Olympic history and heritage. Our school has produced more Olympians, more Olympic medalists, and more Olympic gold medalists than any other American university ever! Since the 1904 Olympics in St. Louis, 467 Trojans have competed in the games. Before this year, these impressive athletes, representing 59 different nations and playing in 28 different sports, have collectively brought home 135 gold, 88 silver, and 65 bronze medals. Considering all-time summer Olympics medal standings by country, USC would rank 16th in medals, and 12th in gold medals specifically. Isn’t that simply amazing?!

This year, Katinka Hosszú, a competitive swimmer representing Hungary, won all three of our gold medals (so far!). Dominating the 200m IM, 400m IM, and the 100m Back, Hosszú shattered the world record for her longer individual medley race with a time of 4:26:36. This shaves of more than 2 whole seconds in a sport where every hundredth of a second makes a difference!!

In these last few days, make sure to tune in for women’s golf, women’s water polo, men’s volleyball, and track & field (Allyson Felix!)!!
