What am I doing this spring break?

That is one question that almost everyone seems to be interested in. And my answer to that is … nothing. Honestly, I don’t even think that spring break is a “break” in the case of graduate students. It’s not that nobody made any plans for this break but it’s just that it takes some courage to take a couple of days off and go on a trip when you know that you have 2 assignments due and a midterm right after spring break. But you don’t have to feel bad for me because though there is so much studying to do, it’s going on pretty smooth and god bless the gorgeous weather. So I decided to take a small break from all the studying and write a quick life update.

My Sunday usually follows a routine. Back home in India, the weekend was never really a “weekend” for me. I vividly remember doing all my assignments every Sunday and most of the time my tests and exams used to be on a Monday. So Sunday was never a fun day. But here I’ve realized that people understand the true purpose of the weekend. I’ve noticed how people work really hard the whole week and they make sure to keep themselves free on the weekends. I’ve really started to like this idea because it’s a good way of rejuvenating. So from past couple of weeks, I’ve been trying to keep myself free on Sundays. So the whole day, I simply dedicate it to things like having a good breakfast, eating lots of fruits, good sleep and streaming a movie.

As a student who stays off campus with no meal plan, planning my day becomes very important to keep myself functioning. So yesterday my day went pretty much like this. I woke up around 7 AM, ate a good breakfast and got ready. Then I cooked for lunch and dinner. And then I worked on my assignment. I make it a point to eat at least 1 fruit a day to keep myself healthy. In fact, I put it on my to-do list. Then in the evening, I went to work at SCallers where I work as a Tele fundraiser for USC. I came back home around 9:30 PM. I video called my parents while having my dinner. Then I started to work on my assignment and it was 1:30 AM by the time I finished it. This is a very rare occurrence because I’m out like a flash by 10 PM. That is how tired I get by the end of the day. But I had to finish this assignment so I could just focus on midterm which is just after spring break.

This is pretty much how most of my days go and spring break is no different. Except that it’s a little relaxed because of no classes. But some really cool events are scheduled after my midterm so I can’t wait to finish my midterm because that is when I get to take my real break.

I hope you guys are having a good and a productive spring break.
