Happy Holidays from the Yip Family!

For the second year in a row, my family was in California for Christmas! I was in lab doing some independent experiments on some new thermoplastics, but I got to go to Palm Springs with my parents and brother for a couple of nights for my birthday and the holidays. Since it was just the four of us, we had a pretty relaxing time. Our resort was absolutely gorgeous, with multiple pools and free boat rides around the surrounding lakes. There were flamingos and swans outside, as well as exotic toucans and parrots inside. For something more traditionally Christmas-y, they had a giant gingerbread house as well as a real Santa that kids could talk to and take pictures with.

Enjoying a desert paradise during winter break.

We also had time to explore downtown and all of the cute little stores and restaurants there. I had stopped by the main street earlier on in the year during a road trip to Phoenix for a conference, but this time, we took our time with the many art galleries and unique shops. We even took the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway (the largest rotating gondola in the world!) to the top of the mountain, giving us incredible views of the entire Coachella Valley. The chill up there made the holiday season feel more real, that’s for sure. I’m glad I got to spend this time with my family and rejuvenate before the new year. Ready to make 2018 even better than 2017!
