This spring semester, I have enrolled in two courses – Digital Image processing with Prof. Jay Kuo and Multimedia Systems Design with Prof. Parag Havaldar.
I’m quite inclined towards enhancing the visual content making it more appealing to the user. The best part about these courses is when you implement a technique you see the modified/enhanced image right away. And once you’ve done that, you can play around with the image, poke your creative bone, experiment different algorithms, sometimes producing bizarre but really cool content.
As part of my assignment, I’ve been implementing several cool filters for images and been experimenting with a couple of them. Imagine how fascinating it is to bring out the details from a picture when it has been taken in an inappropriate amount of light or just adding a bit of a mood to the image. That’s an extremely layman way of putting things. Nevertheless, it is amazing getting to employ your creativity in your assignments. The course is pretty challenging but a lot of fun. Sometimes I even lose track of the number of hours I spend working on the assignment – yes, it IS that interesting! The best thing is the quality and content of the lectures that Prof Kuo gives. I feel fortunate to be tutored by him. Some of the projects yet to be assigned are supposed to make us implement the deep learning concepts; something which is nascent (at least in my head) and has far-fetched consequences. I’m all geared up and really look forward to doing more in this field.
