Yesterday was my car’s first birthday and my first anniversary as a car owner! I couldn’t do anything to celebrate because, unfortunately, finals come first. Perhaps later I can take a cross-country road trip from LA to NYC and set a new a road trip record. Admittedly, it wouldn’t be nearly as amazing as what this team did—driving a Tesla car across country, breaking previous held electric car records and taking only about half a day longer than regular cars.
Perhaps a future car of mine could do that, and that future doesn’t seem so far away with Ford’s recent announcement on a billion-dollar investment in their electric vehicle portfolio.
My current car is combating air pollution in its own small way. It is considered a pzev, or partial zero-emissions vehicle, which means that it has zero evaporative emissions from its fuel system, has a 15-year (or at least 150,000-mile) warranty on its emission-control components, and meets SULEV tailpipe-emission standards.
With ongoing holiday discounts, December is a great month to shop for cars. One benefit is that some companies, like Subaru, even donate to a charity of your choice for every new car bought or leased during the holidays.
I’ll definitely celebrate this one-year milestone by christening my car – she doesn’t have a name yet! If I come up with one, I’ll keep you posted.
