On Tuesday, my brother and I attended a special preview screening of The Hollars on campus hosted by Outside the Box [Office], Sony Pictures Classics, and the USC School of Cinematic Arts. Shown at the Ray Stark Family Theatre in the George Lucas Building, this film was officially selected for both the Sundance Film Festival and the LA Film Fest! The Hollars is directed and produced by John Krasinski (Jim from The Office!), and stars many other actors and actresses like Anna Kendrick, Charlie Day, Richard Jenkins and Margo Martindale. Out of all the movies we’ve signed up for and seen through these free screenings, The Hollars definitely stood out as one of the best! It was a funny, yet heartbreaking story about the bonds of family and friendship set in a small middle-American town. The acting and directing were incredible – I’m excited to see what John Krasinski can do in the future. For a random Tuesday afternoon, this was the perfect little film to see!

If you like watching free movies and meeting incredible directors and producers, definitely check out the School of Cinematic Arts events website here:http://cinema.usc.edu/events/index.cfm. I’ve screened or went to the official premiere of movies like X-Men Origins: Wolverine, Entourage, The Night Before, The Interview, and more. Take advantage of these incredible USC resources while you can!
