Two Weeks in Hong Kong

In November, my mom and I flew to Hong Kong to spend some time with my grandparents. For the past 4-5 years, we’ve spent our entire winter break there, but since my grandfather hasn’t been doing that well in the past few months, we decided to visit a bit earlier! My dad and my brother weren’t able to go since they couldn’t take that much time off of work, but I was able to put in some extra time during the holidays to make up for my absence from lab. It was also odd not spending my birthday, Christmas, and New Years with my aunt and grandparents in Hong Kong, but it was still really nice to have some quality time with all of them.

Throughout the years, we’ve established a few meals and activities that are must-do’s, like having afternoon tea at the InterContinental and Peninsula hotels and eating hairy crab at home, but we took some time to explore some new places as well. We tried a few incredible Korean and Japanese restaurants known for their grilled seafood and fried chicken, as well as a new dim sum spot near my grandparents. It’s crazy how Hong Kong can feel so familiar, yet still so unexplored at the same time. I also got a chance to meet my aunt’s new puppy, Chili! She is the absolute cutest and I got to snuggle with her every night. Hopefully it won’t be too long until I get to visit again!
